Description

Urgotul is a non-occlusive dressing comprising of a polyester mesh impregnated with hydrocolloid particles dispersed in a petroleum jelly matrix. This mass contains carboxymethyl cellulose (hydrocolloid), paraffin, petroleum jelly and carrier polymers. Urgotul is presented in a sterile peelable sachet.

Directions

Prepare the wound according to local protocol. Remove the protective transparent film. Apply Urgotul to the wound in a single layer. Urgotul can be cut with sterile equipment to fit the size of the wound.Cover Urgotul with a secondary dressing to absorb the level of wound exudates. Hold secondary dressing in place with a conforming bandage, an adhesive tape or an elasticated tubular bandage.Urgotul can be left in situ for up to 7 days depending on wound condition. For patients with epidermolysis bullosa, the dressing should be changed between 1 to 3 days.

Advice

Urgotul adheres to latex surgical gloves. These should be moistened with normal saline to facilitate handling of Urgotul. If there are clinical signs of local infection, Urgotul may be used under the supervision of a health-care professional, in combination with suitable systemic antibiotics.
